Aqua Mamluk is a finely hand-knotted wool rug woven in Andkhuy, in northern Afghanistan, a region with a long tradition of fine carpet weaving. The design is inspired by the remarkable geometric carpets woven for the Mamluk courts of Egypt centuries ago. Historic Mamluk carpets are known for their elaborate medallions and dense arrangements of stars, rosettes and intricate geometric forms. This contemporary interpretation carries that tradition into a softer palette of aqua and soft teal, accented with navy blue, warm gold and a touch of coral. Woven in a fine Nooristan weave, its high knot density allows even the smallest elements of the pattern to appear crisp and well defined.
